More lovely new arrivals at J.Crew! Also, sweaters are 20% off right now, so it’s a good time to buy!

LOVE this merino beaded boyfriend sweatshirt.  You know I like that slouchy silhouette and I dig the beaded collar.

Um, this drapey sequin tee is awesome. Great colors and love the relaxed shape with the sparkly embellishment!

This lisette lace shift dress is lovely. You could wear it to work with a blazer, or out at night with some sparkly accessories.

These crinkle taffeta shorts are adorable. Love them with tights and a sweater.

I already bought this crystal chain-link necklace in dusty pink while I was in Boston.  In the store they also had a really cool yellow color that I don’t see online.  In any case, it’s a great necklace.

I love this emerald crystal cuff.  It feels very deco and I am totally digging the bold proportions.

What are your favorite new arrivals?

{shop} skinny style

Love this online jewelry shop Skinny.  They have really fun, funky pieces that are inexpensive and well made.  I ordered a ring for my sister last year, and she loved it.

Here are some of my top picks from the site.

The Hexagon Cocktail Ring with “Ruby” Swarovski is really festive and fun!

Also love this “Turquoise” Oval Cabachon Ring.

So many great bangles!

This Elephant Compact “Locket” Necklace is adorable.

Also, just got this discount code for Skinny that’s good until December 1.  30% off when you enter “fall30off” at checkout.

{shop} j.crew outerwear

Unfortunately, I am not in the market for a new coat. *sigh* But, if I was, there are some fabulous options at J.Crew, which are all 20% off right now! I love coats in shades of camel and grey. They always look elegant.

LOVE this 50’s inspired wool-cashmere capella coat. It’d be perfect with trim pants and flats.

I also really like this Italian wool blazecoat.  The detailing is different and interesting, but not too trendy.  I feel very strongly about this – never buy trendy coats. Coats are expensive and need to go with everything in your wardrobe. It’s too limiting to buy something crazy, plus, you’ll be sad you spent the money when you hate it next winter.

LOVE this stadium-cloth peacoat with gold buttons.  The perfect little peacoat.

Happy Weekend! xoxo

{wear} shawl collar cardigans

Now that the weather has gotten crisp, I am craving a nice cozy shawl collar cardigan to curl up in. Here are some great options:

{click on images for links}

I think this ribbed open shawl-collar cardigan at J.Crew is lovely. Super soft wool/cashmere sounds perfect.

There are some really cute versions at Talbots. I really like the cable no close cardigan and the shawl collar cardigan.

This T by Alexander Wang Jersey Batting Shawl Cardigan is long and lightweight. It looks super comfy.

Gap has a great, affordable basic version.

I think the DKNY Cozy is the ultimate comfy open cardigan.  Plus you can style in it a million different ways.

Here are two ways to wear the open cardigan:

{bake} pumpkin pie

My dad is visiting us for a couple days, and since he is a huge pumpkin pie fan (as am I), I decided to try this Martha recipe for Pumpkin Pie with Press-In Shortbread Crust.  It was delicious!  We all liked the contrast of the crunchy, slightly salty shortbread to the creamy pumpkin filling. The recipe is really easy too. Definitely a must try!

Makes one 9-inch pie.

  • 2 ounces (4 tablespoons) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt

  1. Stir together butter and sugar in a medium bowl. Stir in yolk. Add flour and salt, and stir until mixture is dry and crumbly. Press dough into bottom and up sides of a 9-inch pie dish. Freeze until firm, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Bake, rotating halfway through, just until crust turns golden brown, 20 to 22 minutes. Let cool in dish on a wire rack.
  3. Make filling.

  • 1 can (15 ounces) solid-pack pumpkin
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • Press-In Shortbread Pie Crust
  • Whipped cream, for serving (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Whisk together pumpkin, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, salt, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and eggs in a large bowl. Pour filling into prepared piecrust.
  2. Place dish on a rimmed baking sheet. Bake, rotating halfway through, until filling is just set and slightly puffed but still a bit wobbly, 65 to 70 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack, and let cool completely. Refrigerate, uncovered, for at least 6 hours. (Pie can be refrigerated for up to 2 days.) Serve chilled, topped with whipped cream if desired.

{shop} new @ kate spade

So I know I just did a Kate Spade post, but my sister and I were oohing and ahhing over so many of the new arrivals in the Newbury Street store, that I feel like i have to do another one!

{click on images for links}

Broome Street Jeans = yes please!  Kate Spade jeans!  These are super dark and skinny. They also have fun pink stitching when you turn up the cuff. Love these.

Frosted Felt Market Tote. We were dying over this one. Felt is so right for fall/winter and this lovely grey is perfect.

This sweet patent karolina comes in strawberry and aqua and is a great pastel pop for the cool weather.

Also really loving the velvet chime shoe in black and wine. Perfect for holiday parties.

The crystal confection ring is a perfect cocktail ring.

And as big fans of the gumdrop stud, we really liked this lever back version.

{shop} decorative tape

I love decorative tape. It’s such a fun accent on packages, letters, and craft projects. I look for any excuse to use some.

There are some lovely options over at nonesuch things.  I especially love the jewel and polka dot tapes.

LOVE Japanese masking tape. The colors are gorgeous. Sold here on Etsy.

There are tons of patterns and colors available from happy tape.

The stripes and tapestry designs are fantastic.

sweet {cupcakes} boston

I was in Boston over the long weekend visiting my sister, and we stumbled upon Sweet Cupcakes on Newbury Street while we were out shopping.  So, of course we had to try some!  The cupcakes were awesome and we also really liked their lovely pale pink/chocolate brown color scheme.

We tried (from left to right) dark chocolate, caramel brownie, sweet cake, and pumpkin pie.

The frosting at Sweet is DELICIOUS. They even sell ‘shots’ of it.  We also really liked how they used sprinkles.  I have never met a dessert that wasn’t improved by the addition of sprinkles.

The sweet cake was our favorite. Light and fluffy vanilla cake with creamy, sweet chocolate frosting.
