{style} 2011 emmy awards red carpet

Did you watch the Emmys last night?  I like Jane Lynch but I think they were pretty boring overall.  And maybe I just watch too much Bravo, but I have never heard of some of these shows – Big Bang Theory? What is that about?  And why don’t the actors from Mad Men ever win? I think that is the best show on television.

Anyway, here’s my take on the red carpet.

What’d you think about Gwyneth’s middrift baring dress? I sort of dug it. She looks fantastic, as usual and I really liked the black lace and her fab link bracelets.

I think Emily Blunt rarely makes a misstep. I liked this navy Elie Saab gown. She is gorgeous.

Kate Winslet looked incredible.  Husband was basically drooling.  Love the fit and love the red!

Sofia Vergara also looked amazing in red.  Love those earrings too!

I don’t usually like Evan Rachel Wood, but she looks fantastic in this black sequin Elie Saab gown. Love the cap sleeves.

Another gorgeous girl in red – LOVED Lea Michele in red Marchesa.

Cat Deely’s dresses are one of my favorite things about SYTYCD.  She looked great last night. Love this Monique Lhuillier gown, her loose locks, and bronze clutch.

Did I forget any of your favorites? Who’d you think was best dressed?

oscars 2011 {style}

What did you guys think of the Oscars red carpet last night?!  I thought it was fairly low-key – no one showed up in anything too appalling.  Of course, I still have my favorites.  I thought the best dressed ladies of the night were Cate Blanchett, Mila Kunis, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Anne Hathaway (though she was not the greatest host).

Cate Blanchett is a style icon for a reason.  She looked so incredibly chic in this pale lilac and yellow Givenchy gown.  STUNNING.

I figured we’d see at least one starlet in Elie Saab on last night’s red carpet (I blogged about his gorgeous runway here).  Mila Kunis looked so, so beautiful.  This color was perfect for her and her hair, makeup, and jewelry totally completed the look. LOVE.

I think Gwyneth always looks her best when she goes for sleek, simple looks.  I was dying over this gold metallic Calvin Klein column dress.  The earrings and brooch at the waist were the perfect accessories, as was the super straight hair. Fabulous!

Anne Hathaway is so lovely and likeable.  Overall, I thought her looks last night were incredible.  I enjoyed seeing what she was wearing much more than I enjoyed her awkward banter with co-host James Franco.  She started the night in incredible vintage Valentino.

On stage, I LOVED her Givenchy white gown. Gorgeous.

And the Lanvin tuxedo was fierce (the Brian Atwood pumps made this look as far as I am concerned).

I wasn’t as crazy about her Vivianne Westwood (it may have been that awful updo), the Oscar de la Renta fringed dress, or the final Tom Ford column.

But the Armani and Versace dresses were FABULOUS.  Loved the color.

 Some other women who I thought looked great last night:

Halle Berry in Marchesa.  I am not the biggest Halle Berry fan, but MY GOODNESS she is really one of the most beautiful women on the planet.  I thought this Marchesa gown was so pretty.  I much prefer this to her usual super sexy looks.

Teenager Hailee Steinfeld also wore Marchesa.  She looked adorable.  Totally chic and age appropriate.

Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood was STUNNING.  This gunmetal grey dress was perfect for her.  If only we could all age as gracefully as she does.

Michelle Williams in Chanel was so lovely.  She really works that feminine fragile gamine look.

I also thought that Hilary Swank in feathered Gucci and Sandra Bullock in red Vera Wang were chic and gorgeous.

Scarlett Johansson was super sexy in purple lace by Dolce and Gabbana.  I thought her hair and makeup looked incredible.

Natalie Portman also looked lovely in purple.  Her gown was by Rodarte (I wonder if she specifically chose Rodarte because of the Black Swan costume controversy).  I think this was one of her better maternity looks – she was glowing. I was super excited for her win.

And speaking of controversy, was anyone else shocked that Nicole Kidman wore Dior after the John Galliano arrest and suspension? I didn’t even like the dress.

j.crew spring 2011 look book {style}

The promise of snow tonight is more than I can bear, so I am focusing on the promise of SPRING.  These images from J.Crew’s spring lookbook are a lovely antidote to the impending precipitation.  Maybe I should consider moving south…

golden globe red carpet {style} 2011

I thought the fashion at last night’s Golden Globes was  so fantastic!  The stars went for color and sparkle.  It was so great to see people taking risks and having fun.

The first color trend I noticed was GREEN!  These ladies looked so fabulous in shades of emerald green.

Angelina Jolie never wears color and for the Globes she went for this gorgeous sparkly long sleeve Atelier Versace.  I loved the retro silhouette and that color makes her look even more beautiful.

Catherine Zeta Jones also looked incredible in green Monique Lhuillier.

 Elisabeth Moss and Mila Kunis also rocked deep green frocks, by Donna Karan and Vera Wang, respectively. They both looked fabulous.

 The next big trend was PINK; in all shades of fuchsia, coral, and petal pink. Lovely.

LOVED Julianne Moore in Lanvin. She wears Lanvin a lot, but I think it suits her.  And I love when a redhead rocks hot pink.

Claire Danes and Emma Stone both wore coral Calvin Klein. I loved them both. Sleek and fabulous.

Sandra Bullock showed off new bangs (LOVE) with her gorgeous beaded Jenny Packman dress. I loved this easy silhouette and lovely pale shade.

Scarlett Johansson also wore pale sparkly pink.  Her dress was by Elie Saab. I liked the retro feel of her dress and hair. She looked lovely.

Natalie Portman was GLOWING in her Viktor & Rolf pink column.  I loved this look. Her hair was perfect and her dress was fun and fabulous.  Husband thought pregnancy suited her as well.

Lea Michele looked AMAZING in this pink Oscar de la Renta. Loved the turquoise jewelry too.  She is sort of getting on my nerves though – STOP CRYING!

Another color trend was dark blue – Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier and Amy Adams in Marchesa both looked fantastic.

 Ok, now for my absolute favorites:

Anne Hathaway looked super gorgeous. LOVED her Armani Prive long-sleeve, backless column. Her hair and makeup were PERFECT.

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa.  Just when I thought it was maybe a little too princess-y, she showed off her cheeky Christian Louboutin booties. AWESOME.

Eva Longoria in black Zac Posen looked FIERCE. Good for her.

And I have to give honorable mentions to Piper Perabo in Oscar de la Renta, Leighton Meester in Burberry, and Tilda Swinton in Jill Sander. Piper looked sleek and chic. Her red lips were perfect with her cooly structured black dress.  Leighton can sometimes look like a hot mess, but I loved her long sleeves (a big trend last night) and platforms.  She looked so fresh and young.  And Tilda Swinton is always herself and I love this incredibly simple and chic white shirt and pale skirt. It suits her perfectly.

And now for the hot messes…

Helena Bonham Carter, in Vivienne Westwood, obviously.  She is such a great actress and a beautiful woman, I don’t know why she insists on dressing like a deranged fairy.  She isn’t even wearing a matched pair of shoes. UGH.

 Christina Aguilera, in Zuhair Murad. This was incredibly unflattering.  She needs a stylist (or a new stylist) ASAP.

Rita Wilson in Dolce and Gabbana.  Again, she is totally gorgeous, but she’s been making some bad choices lately.  I don’t understand spaghetti straps and big boobs.  It just looks tacky.  Rita, you can do better!

I really like January Jones, and I usually support her unique red carpet looks.  I hated this fringed red Versace number though.  We get it, you have an incredible body.

Jennifer Love Hewitt in Romona Keveza. This is awful. Stop dressing like a princess. It’s boring and unflattering.  That ruffle on top is doing her no favors and ENOUGH with the spray tan.  Again, such a pretty girl. Sigh.

Jayma Mays, in Alberta Ferretti.  I usually like her red carpet looks, but this is just all wrong.  Too much makeup and the black dress is too harsh.  She looks emaciated.

CFDA fashion fund awards {style}

The CFDA Fashion Fund Awards were last night and, appropriately, there were some fabulous dresses.

These three were the standouts, in my opinion.

Carey Mulligan can do no wrong as far as I am concerned (as I posted here), and she looked flawless last night in Chanel (and can we discuss the brillance of her casting as Daisy in Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Great Gatsby!?).

Kim Kardashian can sometimes err on the side of too sexy, but last night she was a gorgeous modern day Cleopatra in Zac Posen.

And Leighton Meester was lovely and fresh in black and white Prabal Gurung.

You can see more pictures and read about the winners here.

emmy award {style}

Award show season kicked off last night with the Prime Time Emmy Awards.  There were some great looks on the red carpet (and some awful ones too).

Here are my best dressed picks:

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta.  She looked gorgeous!  Loved the navy taffeta, the ruffles, the hair, and that fabulous necklace!

Jayma Mays in Burberry Prorsum.  Another Glee girl in navy.  Fabulous color choice with her red hair!  I loved the sleek silhouette and the bold gold jewelry.

Jane Krakowski in Escada.  Also in navy (a huge trend last night, of which I am a huge fan).  I was happy to see Jane in something different.  Loved the one-shoulder and the gorgeous shimmering fabric.

Claire Danes in Armani Privé. STUNNING.  I think she looks better and better all the time.  The dress was a simple strapless silhouette, which she often favors, but I loved the all-over beading.  The color was beautiful on her.

Glee’s Heather Morris in Ina Soltani also went for full on beading.  She looks so great!  LOVE the sequins, the gold dress with black accents, and her perfect red lipstick.

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta.  So glam!  I loved the detail on this dress and the great shape.  Also loved her hair.  I think this may be her best red carpet ever.

January Jones in Atelier Versace.  People are divided on this one, but I loved it.  January is fashion forward and takes big risks, which I enjoy.  She looked dynamite.

Kristen Wiig in ?. I love this black and white dress with the great embellishment on the shoulders.  She looks fantastic.

Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karen.  I think that Elisabeth looks so lovely in this pale greige dress.  Her hair and makeup were also flawless.

Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen.  Gorgeous.  I love, love, love this dress and I think it was the perfect choice for her.  So strong and so glamorous.

Ok, now for the not so fabulous.

I love Dianna Agron on Glee and I think she is lovely, but this dress is like an awful tablecloth.  I hate it.

Kyra Sedgwick usually looks sleek and beautiful, but I hated this awful crinkly maroon gown.  And her hair was too messy.

Again, HUGE fan of Christina Hendricks – I really don’t think there are many people more beautiful than Christina, but I just can’t get behind this awful lilac gown.  The feathers make me cringe.

Emily Deschanel is also lovely, but made a bad, bad choice.  This dress is awful.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus always wears Narcisco Rodriguez, and usually looks amazing and sleek, but I really do not like the sheer midsection of this gown.  Her earrings, hair, and makeup, however, are fabulous.

Rita Wilson!? Again, usually sophisticated and lovely.  This number is just awful.  And the shoes are beyond terrible.

gwyneth paltrow {style}

Gwyneth Paltrow looked so good at the National Movie Awards in London last night.  I love this pink prada dress, I love the green necklace, and I love her hair! Gorgeous.

And speaking of Gwyneth, did anyone else watch her on The Marriage Ref?  She was pretty funny… and she, of course, looked great in Victoria Beckham.

I also really liked her in this Stella McCartney at an Iron Man Screening.

anna wintour {style}

I just watched The September Issue last night (I know, I know, it took me a long time to finally see it!).  It was a great documentary.  So much fun to see how they put the magazine together and I loved Grace Coddington.  She was very funny and candid.  Anna Wintour looked amazing throughout.  She has great personal style.  She knows what works for her and she sticks to it.  Print dresses and skirts, that perfect bob, her big black sunglasses, and a fabulous necklace.  She wore this huge citrine necklace throughout the documentary that I would die for.  I just wish she didn’t wear so much fur!

olivia palermo {style}

I thought she had a serious attitude when I saw her on The City, but the girl has got some serious style.  Obviously, she’s absolutely beautiful, but she also wears really great clothes and accessories in interesting ways.  She’s basically the reason I watch The City – I love to see what she’s wearing.
