{recipe} roasted cauliflower with pasta and lemon zest

This is one of our ‘go to’ recipes for a quick, delicious (and vegan!) dinner.  My husband, the carnivore, loves this one, so we make it a lot.  Cauliflower is one of my favorite vegtables, and I especially like it roasted.

The Recipe:

  • 1 large head cauliflower (about 2 lbs), cut into small florets
  • 1 red onion, cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
  • 1/4 cup salt-packed capers, rinsed
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • coarse sea salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 8 ounces dried orecchiette (I used shells here, really any small pasta would work well)
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 2 tablespoons finely grated lemon zest
  1. Preheat oven to 450. Toss together cauliflower, onion, capers, and 2 tablespoons oil. Season with salt and pepper. Spread vegtables in a single layer on a rimmed baking sheet.
  2. Roast, stirring halfway through, until cauliflower is tender and browned, 30-40 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add pasta, and cook until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain.
  4. Toss hot pasta with remaining 2 tablespoons oil, parsley, and lemon zest. Add cauliflower mixture, and season with salt and pepper. Gently toss to combine.

emmy award {style}

Award show season kicked off last night with the Prime Time Emmy Awards.  There were some great looks on the red carpet (and some awful ones too).

Here are my best dressed picks:

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta.  She looked gorgeous!  Loved the navy taffeta, the ruffles, the hair, and that fabulous necklace!

Jayma Mays in Burberry Prorsum.  Another Glee girl in navy.  Fabulous color choice with her red hair!  I loved the sleek silhouette and the bold gold jewelry.

Jane Krakowski in Escada.  Also in navy (a huge trend last night, of which I am a huge fan).  I was happy to see Jane in something different.  Loved the one-shoulder and the gorgeous shimmering fabric.

Claire Danes in Armani Privé. STUNNING.  I think she looks better and better all the time.  The dress was a simple strapless silhouette, which she often favors, but I loved the all-over beading.  The color was beautiful on her.

Glee’s Heather Morris in Ina Soltani also went for full on beading.  She looks so great!  LOVE the sequins, the gold dress with black accents, and her perfect red lipstick.

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta.  So glam!  I loved the detail on this dress and the great shape.  Also loved her hair.  I think this may be her best red carpet ever.

January Jones in Atelier Versace.  People are divided on this one, but I loved it.  January is fashion forward and takes big risks, which I enjoy.  She looked dynamite.

Kristen Wiig in ?. I love this black and white dress with the great embellishment on the shoulders.  She looks fantastic.

Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karen.  I think that Elisabeth looks so lovely in this pale greige dress.  Her hair and makeup were also flawless.

Anna Paquin in Alexander McQueen.  Gorgeous.  I love, love, love this dress and I think it was the perfect choice for her.  So strong and so glamorous.

Ok, now for the not so fabulous.

I love Dianna Agron on Glee and I think she is lovely, but this dress is like an awful tablecloth.  I hate it.

Kyra Sedgwick usually looks sleek and beautiful, but I hated this awful crinkly maroon gown.  And her hair was too messy.

Again, HUGE fan of Christina Hendricks – I really don’t think there are many people more beautiful than Christina, but I just can’t get behind this awful lilac gown.  The feathers make me cringe.

Emily Deschanel is also lovely, but made a bad, bad choice.  This dress is awful.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus always wears Narcisco Rodriguez, and usually looks amazing and sleek, but I really do not like the sheer midsection of this gown.  Her earrings, hair, and makeup, however, are fabulous.

Rita Wilson!? Again, usually sophisticated and lovely.  This number is just awful.  And the shoes are beyond terrible.

{shop} alexis bittar

Really into Alexis Bittar‘s lucite jewelry lately.  I love the styles that are smattered with crystals.  I’d like a stack of the bangles and maybe some earrings as well… oh, and definitely a chunky ring.

{wear} fedoras

I am really loving all the fedoras I’ve seen for Fall.  I’ve always had a thing for hats, and definitely rocked the Blossom hat in my middle school years (remember those!?).

A fedora is timeless and trendy at the same time, and definitely lends a sense of mystery to your look.  Very sexy.

I really love this Tarnish Fedora at Nordstrom.  Great price and so many great colors!

I think the red one would be awesome with my camel coat.

Ooh, the beaded embellishment on this Aqua Jewel Wool Fedora Hat at Bloomingdales is sooo good.  Very funky.

Love the small feather tucked into the band of this RVCA Hendricks Fedora.

Also digging the Lux Fedora by RVCA.  Great studded accents (modeled by Ali from The City – remember her?!).

More feathers on this Juicy Couture Wool Felt Fedora. Fantastic. I like it in grey and also in teal.

I think we all need one for the Fall!

{wear} faux fur vests

My friend Emily and I have been obsessing about a faux fur vest for Fall.  It’s a great way to make a casual outfit feel more luxe.  Love it mixed with denim, tweed, and sequins.

Love this Sanctuary Natalie Faux Fur Vest.  It looks so plush and glam.

This Kristen Blake Reversible Faux Fur Vest is a lovely grey version.  The inside is cable knit, so you can flip it inside out for a more casual look.

This MICHAEL Michael Kors Faux Fur Vest is fabulous.  Love the color of the fur and the standup collar.

Love the faux leather belt on this Lipsy Textured Faux Fur Gilet.

The Steve Madden O-Fur is pretty rock and roll (and a less expensive way to incorporate the faux fur trend).

The Janika Vest by BB Dakota is another less expensive alternative.  I like the neutral brown hue and the simple lines of this one.

Have you guys seen the gorgeous ballerina project?  Photos of ballerinas in unusual places = awesome.  Here are a few of my favorites.  See them all on their facebook page.

{inspire} steamline luggage

I’d like to take a trip somewhere faraway and exotic.  And I’d like to travel with this gorgeous editor series luggage by steamline.

It’s so retro and glamorous… perfect for a fabulous extended train trip.  I’d pack timeless and ladylike clothes and accessories: perfect tweed jackets, pearls, and cocktain rings.

{wear} clogs

I keep seeing clogs for fall.  Not sure how I feel about rocking this particular trend myself, but I do like the idea of clogs with tights or over-the-knee socks.  Or maybe with cropped pants… Hmm… I may be convincing myself to buy a pair…   I am especially digging pairs with rivets and ankle straps (they’d be much easier to wear).

{click on photos for links}

I think these See by Chloe clogs are pretty darn perfect.  Love the tan/grey combination, the super high wedge, and the ankle strap.

This Coach Rana Clog is pretty cute.  Love the tassel.

Also digging this Steve Madden Carnee Clog.

The KORS Michael Kors Claudia Clog is really nice.

Another great KORS Michaek Kors pair (I guess he’s really into clogs for Fall) – the Quincy.

Tory Burch does a logo’d Brayden Clog.

Ooh, the DVF Octacvia is sooo high, and sooo great.

I tend towards the taller pairs, but these Naya Irina clogs are much more managable and still super cute.  I like the bow.

Will you be wearing clogs this Fall?
