{wear} in turks and caicos

My husband and I are leaving tomorrow for a trip to Turks and Caicos with his family.  I am so excited! I can’t wait to sit on the beach with my toes in the sand, a fruity drink, and a silly book.  Of course I waited until tonight to start packing, but here’s what will go in my bag:

I don’t think I’ll be blogging from there, so I will be back after May 1.

Cheers!

{shop} new @ j.crew

I love that the new J.Crew catalogue shoot was done in Turks and Caicos, since that is where we are heading on vacation on Saturday! But besides that, there are, as usual, great new offerings for May!

This Multisse Sequin Tank is amazing. LOVE the colors and the loose fit.

I really like this shirred racerback gown.  It’s elegant and casual plus it has a layered tank that is nice for us busty girls.  I’d wear it with my neon pink skinny belt and flat sandals.

This jeweled jardin jacket is to-die-for, but it is also $495 AND already sold out online.  I guess it wasn’t meant to be…

This painted silk Bridget dress is so pretty, but not too sweet.

These ivory linen gazebo trousers are so easy and elegant – plus they come in tall, which I always appreciate.  I love linen in the summer, and I’d like to wear these this summer with my navy/white striped sailor tee and big pink emersonmade rose.

J.Crew has several items in this Impressionist print, but I like the pencil skirt the best.  It’d be perfect for work with a tucked in button-down, or on the weekend with flat sandals and a t-shirt.

How cute are these canvas totes!?  J.Crew elegantly calls them ladies’ companion totes.  At only $10 each, they’d make a great shopping bag.

I’m waiting for a spring discount code, J.Crew – it’s been a while!

{shop} miss trish for target

Last summer Miss Trish of Capri teamed up with Target for a super cute sandal line.  I bought a pair of flat gold sandals with lion medallions.  I didn’t realize it, but I guess they have teamed up again this summer!  Check out these super cute styles:

The Seahorse Flat Sandal in White is adorable.  I love the turquoise and gold seahorse!

The Coral Flat Sandal in Black is, I think, my favorite.  In fact, I would like to buy these before I go on vacation next week!  I love the pearl detail.

I  love sandal season!

{inspire} funny girl

My grandma passed away last week.  One of the things I will always remember about her is how much she loved movies.  She introduced us to all the great old musicals when we were kids.  She loved Barbra Streisand, and Funny Girl was one of her favorites.  I love this movie.  I think that it is funny and glamorous and it always makes me think of my grandma.  Barbra looked great in this movie.  I love the hair, the makeup, and the costumes.

And I love when Barbra sings “Sadie, Sadie Married Lady” because my grandma called me Sadie.

{shop} stella & dot

I came across the super cute Stella & Dot jewelry line the other day.  There is tons of fun jewelry and everything is really affordable!

I especially love this Palm Beach Necklace with Starfish.  The yellow/turquoise combination is so summery.  It’d look great with a tunic or even a white t-shirt.

This Colette Necklace is also adorable.  I love the pale pink ribbon tie.

The St. Tropez Statement Necklace is elegant and timeless.  I love the beading on the ribbon tie.

I like the ombre silk of this Uma Silk Wrap Necklace.

The necklaces are all so versatile and can be wrapped for a short, chunky look, or left to hang long.  Stella & Dot also has some great bracelets, rings, and earrings, but the necklaces are my favorite!

twyla tharp’s come fly away {dance}

I am SO excited about Twyla Tharp’s new Broadway show ‘Come Fly Away’ set to the music of Frank Sinatra.  I’ve been a huge fan of her for as long as I can remember.  My first Modern Dance teacher gave me her biography to read and I’ve seen everything of hers that I could.  Her first Broadway show ‘Movin’ Out’ is still my favorite show of all times (if you say you don’t love Billy Joel, you are lying).  One of my favorite ballets of hers is Sinatra Suite, so I am super excited to see how this pseudo-expansion plays out.  I’ve already told husband that I want to go see it for my birthday this summer.

{couture} j. crew fall 2010

I know that is just April, but these fab looks from J.Crew for Fall almost make me want to skip over summer (my favorite season) and go right for the tweed, tights, and layers.  Check out what we have to look forward to.

First of all, the styling of these looks is amazing.  The layering and the accessorizing is so good.  I LOVE the brooches, hats, and flower/feather hairpieces, because, let’s face it, I’m a more-is-more kind of girl.  Fall is looking good!

{shop} cynthia vincent for target

The newest Target/designer collaboration features shoes by Cynthia Vincent.  The collection debuts on April 18, and I think it looks promising!

I think my favorite pair is the wedges.  I hope they look as good in person as they do in the pictures.

I think I will buy them in the brown, although the yellow is really cute…

The jury is still out on this pair of wedges.  I kind of like them, but I’m not sure.  I think I’ll need to see them in person.

These flat sandals are also super cute.

And rounding out the collection are this pair of  flats, black heels, and another flat sandal.

The whole collection retails for between $24.99 and $29.99.

{inspire} an education

I FINALLY watched the movie An Education the other night and it was fantastic.  I loved the coming of age story, the acting was fabulous, the music was dead on, and the clothes were so much fun.  The dresses, the hair, the jewelry.  I am obsessed.

I may need to buy this one on DVD. I just loved it.

{wear} sequin tank

This is for my sister Katie, who said she’s looking for a sequin tank.  I think it’s a fun addition to any wardrobe and can easily be dressed up or down.  I looked online for some more affordable options, since Katie and I are looking for something less pricey than this one from DKNY that we are drooling over:

At $495, its a serious investment.  More than I’d want to spend on a sequin shirt.  Here are some other, less expensive options:

This twisted racerback sequin top at Express is $49.50.  It’s hard to tell online if the sequins look cheap or cool, but it’s definitely worth checking out.  As is their sequin front tank for $39.50.

This sparkle sequin tank at Ann Taylor Loft is also nice.  Definitely a more casual option.

Sparkle Sequin Tank

I really like this tissue tank at j.crew.  They layering is really pretty and both the pink and grey options are lovely.  And at $74.00, it’s pretty reasonable.

This Simply Vera Vera Wang Sequin Tunic is adorable.  I love the mint green and grey combination.  It’s also a super steal at $34.

Sorry, Katie, I know this will be your favorite and it is $220, but it is so fabulous!  It’d look great with our boyfriend blazers.

This Elie Tahari Nora Knit top is fantastic.  I like the tunic length and the gunmetal color.  It comes in at $152.

This DKNYC striped tank is really cute!  And a great buy – only $29.50.

This AE Sequin Stripe Tank is also really cute.  I like the ombre sequins.  Also super cheap at $29.50.

I think we could all use a little more sparkle!
